Following the release of the 1969 SC/Rambler “Scrambler, AMC came back in 1970 with The Machine. It was another recognizable muscle car as the first ones were painted white and featured bold red, white, and blue reflective stripes (made by 3M) on the body sides that wrapped over the trunk lid.
Styling was essentially unchanged from the previous year. The anti-theft alarm system was now standard, and the center console was redesigned with fiber optic warning lights being standard.
The 1975 Monte Carlo was revised only slightly from the previous year like a new grille with the Monte Carlo emblem moved to the center section and new vertically shaped taillights with horizontal louvers.
The 1973 Road Runner received completely new sheet metal and had more conventional squared-up front-end styling, which resembled the four-door models and actually increased sales by 40%.
