Iconic Lamborghini Countach from 'The Wolf of Wall Street' Fetches $1.655 Million

It's an interesting car.

A piece of cinematic and automotive history was made at an RM Sotheby's auction in New York City last month, where a Lamborghini Countach used in the 2013 blockbuster film “The Wolf of Wall Street” was sold for an impressive $1,655,000. This iconic car, central to one of the movie's memorable sequences, commanded a price within the expected $1.5 million to $2 million range set by RM Sotheby's.

This particular Countach holds a special place in Hollywood lore. Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the notorious stockbroker Jordan Belfort, the movie used two Countach models. Unlike its counterpart auctioned in Abu Dhabi last November (which remained unsold at $1.35 million), this car emerged from the filming unscathed. The other Countach, damaged during a scene portraying Belfort's drug-fueled crash, still bore its cinematic battle scars.

The sold Lamborghini Countach is a 25th Anniversary Edition, a model celebrated for its unique spoilers and modified air vents, designed by Horacio Pagani before founding his eponymous supercar brand. With only 658 units ever made, this edition forms a substantial part of the Countach's approximately 2,000-car production run. This specific 1989 model is even rarer, being one of just 12 originally delivered in the U.S. with an eye-catching white-on-white color scheme.

Adding to its uniqueness, the car featured a smaller, non-U.S. standard front bumper during the movie shoot, later swapped back to the U.S.-spec version by a previous owner. This subtle difference distinguishes it from the other movie-used Countach, which retained its U.S.-spec front bumper throughout the filming.

The recent auction underscores the Countach's enduring allure, amplified by its Hollywood connection. Despite other Countach models being available for under $1 million, this film star car's premium price reflects its unique blend of automotive excellence and cinematic history.
