Guy Claims To Have World’s Cheapest Corvette

It is pretty cheap…

Instagram user backspeedboys claims to have the cheapest Corvette in the world, a claim we think some people will try to contest. Even if it’s not the absolute cheapest out there, it is quite the budget build. After all, the guy paid just $1,700 for the thing, which he says was actually running. Today it would probably set you back $15,000 (that’s a joke, kind of).

Learn more about the history of the Corvette here.

The guy says the car was a field find the previous owner had given up on. Apparently, it had a custom stainless steel exhaust system and ran, although we’re guessing it didn’t run well. Instead of going for a complete restoration of the C3, he decided to cobble together a budget build, we’re guessing because he didn’t have a ton of money but still wanted to have fun.

This is what’s great about wrenching on your own car. Sure, you’re probably going to make some mistakes, but you can create something that’s unique and spend a lot less in the process. We’ve known people who preach about the dangers of working on your own car and quite frankly think they’re ninnies. Fortune favors the bold, after all, and your pocketbook favors getting your hands dirty while thinking creatively.

Backspeedboys took some unconventional approaches with his budget C3 Corvette. He installed Z06 Corvette seats since the original were goners. The guy also opted to ravage a Miata for its electric pop-up headlights. We know, installing Mazda parts on a Corvette is enough to give some Chevy fans an aneurysm, but we applaud his unconventional approach.

He also installed digital gauges, so the C3’s original flavor is changed some. Another upgrade he mentioned is Proxes R888 tires, which he called “overkill.” Maybe they were, but we’ve found far too many people, even a shocking number of enthusiasts, underestimate the value of quality tires on a car. They impact everything: handling, braking, acceleration, etc.
