Subaru and Hoonigan have officially reignited the Gymkhana franchise with the debut of the Brataroo 9500 Turbo, a radical Subaru BRAT reinterpretation unveiled at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Built in collaboration with Subaru Motorsports USA and Vermont SportsCar, the Brataroo represents a fusion of racing innovation and the showmanship that defines the Gymkhana legacy.
The Brataroo is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine producing 670 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. It revs to a staggering 9,500 rpm—making it the most extreme Gymkhana powerplant yet. The power is delivered through a six-speed SADEV sequential transmission and an all-wheel-drive system derived from rallycross competition. Designed to withstand jumps and slides at high speed, its rally-bred chassis is paired with a full carbon-fiber body and WRC-spec suspension built to handle the abuse of precision stunt driving.
Among its standout features is an advanced active aerodynamic system, a first for any Gymkhana car. The setup includes pivoting front fender louvers and dual rear wings that dynamically adjust for downforce or balance. The larger rear wing even expands its surface area during deployment, allowing precise control mid-jump or during transitions.
The Brataroo’s styling reimagines the late-1970s Subaru BRAT through a futuristic lens. Designed by Khyzyl Saleem, it combines classic proportions with aggressive aerodynamic details and an Outback-inspired livery. Inside, the cabin blends retro cues with high-tech materials, including carbon fiber, flax-composite woodgrain trim, and vintage-style controls repurposed for modern systems.
The car will star in Gymkhana: Aussie Shred, filmed in Australia and set to premiere this December. With the Brataroo as its centerpiece, Hoonigan’s return promises a new era of precision-engineered chaos—proof that the future of Gymkhana is faster, smarter, and louder than ever.
