1,000-HP Trans Am Super Duty Restomod Revives Pontiac’s Wildest Muscle Legacy

The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has long lived in the pantheon of American muscle icons — brash, flamboyant, and unapologetically over the top. Decades after Pontiac’s demise, the brand’s legend refuses to fade, thanks in part to small shops that keep its rebellious spirit alive. Among them, Florida-based Trans Am Worldwide has taken the concept to an extreme with the Trans Am Super Duty, a 1,000-horsepower restomod that channels the audacious energy of the original while pushing far beyond its factory limits.

Beneath its retro-inspired bodywork, the Super Duty hides a heavily re-engineered Camaro platform, transformed both mechanically and visually. Power comes from a supercharged 7.4-liter V8 producing more than 1,000 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual transmission — a nod to muscle car purists who still prefer to shift their own gears. The drivetrain’s output dwarfs anything offered by Pontiac in its prime, but the spirit of the Trans Am remains unmistakable.

The design stays true to the brand’s heritage with reworked bumpers, redesigned panels, and modernized lighting, all anchored by the unmistakable hood bird — the “screaming chicken” emblem that became synonymous with 1970s automotive excess. Inside, a bespoke cabin redesign elevates the experience, combining modern materials with retro cues that recall the car’s cinematic heyday.

Only 50 examples of the Trans Am Super Duty were built, making it an instant collectible. A striking blue example from 2017 is currently listed by Trans Am Specialties in Florida for $275,000, while another, finished in yellow and claimed to be the last ever produced, remains available through Trans Am Worldwide.

The Super Duty captures everything that made the Trans Am famous — performance, attitude, and spectacle. It’s loud, excessive, and completely unrestrained, just as a proper American muscle car should be. In a world of quiet electric performance, this reborn Trans Am stands as a defiant tribute to gasoline-fueled grandeur.
