Coyote-Powered 1965 Cobra From Backdraft Racing Up For Grabs

Here's your chance to own a fast and fine Shelby replica.

When it comes to high-quality replicas of the 1965 Shelby Cobra, Backdraft Racing is up there at the top of the list. These cars merge the timeless beauty of the Shelby Cobra with a powerful and modern powertrain, and this particular example will be crossing the auction block in a couple weeks at the Saratoga Auto Auction.

The Shelby Cobra is probably one of the most recognizable sports cars on the planet, so it's hard to mess with this wide-body design too much. The biggest difference in these cars is the attention to detail when it comes to paint and accessories. This car wears a beautiful Crystal Red paint job with a pair of Steel Grey racing stripes running the full length of the body, and under the hood, the valve covers are color matched to the exterior paint. One of the cool design elements on this car is the black headers with chrome guard that matches the two-tone effect found on the wheels. Inside, the black interior reveals bucket seats with four-point racing harnesses, and there is a limited amount of bright work found on the steering wheel, shifter and fire extinguisher.

Tucked in between those wonderfully wide fenders is Ford's 5.0-liter Coyote V8. It isn't clear when this replica was built or what year the engine is from, but Ford's Coyote engine launched in 2011 with 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque and increased output in the following years to its current output of 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque (in the 2019 Mustang GT). That would be more than enough power to make this lightweight car a rocket, and it should be even more fun to drive thanks to the T5 six-speed manual transmission. And with just 1,289 miles on the odometer, this '65 Cobra is just barely broken in!

The Shelby Cobra is the quintessential sports car, and this one can be yours when it crosses the auction block at the Saratoga Auto Auction on September 20-21.
