The 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible remains one of the most recognizable symbols of late-1950s American automotive design, and one newly restored example is combining that unmistakable styling with modern performance upgrades. Finished in Chrysler Velvet Red Pearl with gold anodized trim, the convertible has been transformed into a restomod that pairs vintage aesthetics with updated powertrain technology and contemporary drivability.

The Belvedere’s dramatic tailfins, chrome detailing, and sweeping body lines capture the era’s bold design language, while modern enhancements underneath the sheet metal aim to make the car more enjoyable for regular road use. The convertible top operates with power assistance, adding convenience while preserving the open-air cruising experience that defined American boulevard driving in the 1950s.

Inside, the cabin maintains a period-inspired appearance with updated materials and comfort features. A white leather split-bench seat anchors the interior, joined by custom door panels and matching rear trim. The dashboard retains an original-style gauge cluster, while the push-button digital transmission shifter adds a blend of nostalgic character and updated functionality. Modern conveniences such as air conditioning, heat, defrost, and an AM/FM radio have also been integrated into the build.

Power comes from a modern 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine, replacing the original powertrain with a more powerful and reliable setup. The engine installation includes stock-style manifolds, an aftermarket air intake, a high-output alternator, and an aluminum radiator equipped with a Spal cooling fan. The combination is designed to provide smooth performance and dependable cooling during long drives or warm-weather cruising.

Backing the HEMI is an A518 four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, helping deliver improved highway drivability and more relaxed cruising speeds. Additional mechanical upgrades include an 8 1/4-inch rear axle, four-wheel power disc brakes, and power steering, all intended to improve handling confidence and stopping performance compared to the original setup.

The car also rides on Coker white wall tires, reinforcing its authentic 1950s appearance while complementing the modernized chassis upgrades underneath. Documentation included with the vehicle consists of receipts, service manuals, and the owner’s manual.

Blending iconic styling with contemporary engineering, this 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible restomod reflects the growing appeal of classic American cars updated for modern road use while preserving the character that made them memorable in the first place. See it here.
