Two-Owner 1969 Lamborghini Miura Hammers For $1.6 million

This original-condition Miura destroyed its pre-auction price estimates!

RM Sotheby's held its London auction event last week, and one of the most notable cars to cross the auction block was an original 1969 Lamborghini Miura S that was being sold with no reserve. Pre-auction estimates valued this Miura somewhere between £800,000 and £1,000,000 (which is around $1.02 million to $1.29 million USD), but it ended up being a more popular than expected with its final hammer price far exceeding those figures at £1,248,125 ($1.6 million USD).

Even more surprising about this price is the fact that the auction listing was amended to note that not all the paint was original and the sale did not include the car's original service book. This Lamborghini was stored in a garage for several years and is in need of a restoration, but it is far from your typical barn find.

Although this is a 1969 model year vehicle, this Miura wasn't purchased and registered by its first owner until 1971. Just three years later, the Lamborghini was sold to its second owner, who drove it and enjoyed it until his death in 2015. After that, this car was stored in an open garage for four years exposed to the elements. Needless to say, this car is definitely in need of some maintenance and a restoration, but it will be hard to find an unrestored Miura in condition that is as good and original as this one.

This 1969 Lamborghini Miura (chassis no. 4245) is painted in Giallo Flay paint with a Skay Bleu interior, and the auction listing said that the owner would require his female passengers to match the car by wearing a yellow shirt with blue jeans. That sounds well worth the price of admission for a chance to ride in such a spectacular machine, but let's hope the new owner isn't as demanding of his passengers.
