1969 Dodge Dart Goes Head To Head With A 1970 Chevy Chevelle

Who will take home the admiration of the car enthusiasts involved in the Mopar vs GM debate?

Dodge has gotten a lot of attention in recent years for making some of the fastest production cars ever to hit the asphalt of American roads. However, this focus on insane performance is not new for America’s favorite performance brand. The classic Dodges from the old days were the best in their class, both on the street and the drag strip. In particular, you have models like the Dodge Dart, whose compact design, excellent powertrain, and classic late ‘60s style. So, of course, this created a lot of competition between the Mopar monsters and their GM and Ford counterparts. Today we’ll witness a showing of this incredible rivalry as one of Chevy’s top dogs steps up to challenge the Dodge for the hearts and minds of car enthusiasts everywhere.

See a killer Dodge Dart here.

Under the hood of this insane 1969 Dodge Dart is a 340 ci V8 engine, which boasts a power output of 275 horsepower with a 10.5/1 compression ratio. Acceleration is a breeze in this car as that powerhouse also boasts a good 340 lb/ft of torque. Power transfer is handled by the three-speed automatic transmission and a set of 3.55 gears. Its competitor is a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS which boasts a massive 396 ci V8 which produces 350 horsepower. That powerful motor sends power through a four-speed manual transmission and 3.31 gears.

This matchup is sure to be an exciting race as the Dart was severely underrated from the factory and boasts a more performance-oriented gear ratio. After both cars had lined up for the race, the green light flashed, and the racers shot down the track leaving a mass of exhaust sound in their wake. The Dart overtook the Chevelle with ease but also jumped off the line far too soon, giving the win to the Chevelle, who also had a slightly better quarter-mile time. Race number two was far fairer as the Dart launched on time. While the Dart still held the lead, the Chevelle took the win with a quicker quarter-mile time. This trend carried into the final race as the Chevelle took home some points for team GM.
