Ferrari Replica From 'Ferris Bueller’s Day Off' Sells For $396K

Someone with the means took Bueller's advice and picked this one up!

Just about everything in Hollywood is a fake, and that includes the 1963 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder famously taken for joyride through Chicago in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Instead of abusing a rare car that is worth more than $16 million today, John Hughes commissioned three replicas from Modena Design – called the Modena GT Spyder – for use in the film. While it isn't an actual Ferrari, this sports car is a movie icon, and sold for an impressive $396,000 at Barrett-Jackson this weekend.

This particular Ferrar... I mean, Modena GT Spyder... is the No. 1 hero car used for the movie with serial number GTC001. The only noticeable differences between this car now and its movie days are the addition of front driving lights and the lack of Ferrari badges (due to obvious trademark issues). This car underwent a full body-off restoration through Modena Design, and it's been driven just 552 miles since – no, you can't roll back the odometer!

Inside, the restoration freshened up the Modena GT Spyder with a brand new interior and soft top, and it features many modern conveniences such as a GPS speedometer and a Bluetooth audio system with two Blaupunkt amps. Along with the car, the seller is also throwing in some movie memorabilia including photos, 1/24 scale die cast model, a Hot Wheels car and signed build photos.

Being a replica, there's no screaming Ferrari V-12 under the hood, but this Modena GT Spyder is still an impressive sports car with a powerful 427 CID V-8 fed by a 750 CFM Demon four-barrel carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a helical drive limited-slip differential.

Not only is this car an icon for movie lovers, Ferris Bueller's "Ferrari" was so important that a similar replica was added to the National Historic Vehicle Register. As such, it's no surprise that this movie-used knockoff sold for such a high amount.
