Only 57 of these were ever made.

Every once in a while, an automaker will offer what’s essentially a street-legal race car to consumers. That’s exactly what this 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 R-Code is. For the average person, the $4,501.12 price was a little steep, considering you could get a regular Fairlane V8 for about half that. But this vehicle is special, considering it packs a thumping 427ci V8 and four-speed manual transmission, making it the ultimate driver’s car.

It’s obvious the previous owner understood just how special this machine is, and that’s great news for you. The original window sticker is still in place on the rear glass, plus plenty of other documentation will be included with the sale. Considering this was #52 of the 57 made, this Ford is most definitely worth the effort of keeping it pristine from bumper to bumper.

Speaking of looks, the Wimbledon White paint has an exceptionally nice sheen to it. All the chrome on the bumpers, side mirrors, windshield frame, etc. shines brightly. You’ll note the hood pins, badging, and wheels are all factory-original. Even the steel wheels wear the factory Wimbledon White, matching the body. Reproduction BF Goodrich Silvertown tires wrapped around the front wheels and Firestone slicks on the rear complete the period-correct exterior.

Inside, virtually everything looks original, from the carpeting to the vinyl seats. All the factory controls and gauges are in place, while an aftermarket tach sits at the top of the dash where it can be easily referenced. Like any true racer, this car never came with a radio, and one hasn’t been added.

Opening the hood, you’ll find the R-code 427 has been fully detailed, along with everything else in the engine compartment. Ralph Conners rebuilt the block, staying faithful to the original specs while adding reliability to this car. The correct aluminum mid-rise intake is included, along with dual Holley 710 CFM 4bbl carbs.
