Former John Oates–Owned Tiga SC84 Sports 2000 Race Car Offered at No Reserve

A Sports 2000–class Tiga SC84 race car previously owned by musician John Oates is being offered at no reserve, presenting a well-documented competition chassis with recent refurbishment history and accompanying spares. As of the latest update, bidding has reached $17,719.

The car underwent a comprehensive mechanical refresh around 2018 at Apex Vintage, where its 2.0-liter Ford inline-four engine was rebuilt. Shortly afterward, Oates acquired the car and commissioned further work at Gunnar Racing. That phase of preparation included replacing the four-speed manual transaxle, overhauling the braking system, repairing the fiberglass bodywork, and refinishing the exterior before applying a custom vinyl wrap.

The livery blends American flag and Union Jack graphics with racing roundels and music-themed elements, reflecting the car’s ownership history. Additional exterior features include a chrome roll hoop, air scoop, panoramic rearview mirror, and a camera mount.

Built around an aluminum monocoque chassis, the SC84 rides on Koni adjustable coilovers at all four corners and uses four-wheel disc brakes. Satin black 13-inch Gotti center-lock wheels are mounted with Avon slicks fitted in 2019, sized differently front to rear to suit its race setup.

Inside, the right-hand-drive cockpit is configured strictly for competition use. Equipment includes a MOMO Mod. 27/C steering wheel on a quick-release hub, an AiM digital dashboard mounted on carbon fiber, a Tilton brake-bias adjuster, and a SPA Technique fire suppression system. A red Sparco harness valid through 2030 has been installed, though the fixed racing seat lacks padding. The car does not have an odometer.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Gunnar Racing–built four-speed transaxle featuring a White Rhino alloy case and a Tilton OT-II clutch. The engine uses a Weber carburetor, FAST XR-700 ignition, and a four-into-one exhaust header. Recent sale preparation included routine fluid service and a new battery.

The sale includes SCCA logbooks, service records, spare gear sets, and an extra set of wheels and tires. The vehicle is not street legal and is offered on a bill of sale only.
