Time is running out on a classic piece of Jeep history. A 1979 Jeep CJ-5 from The Gateway Collection February is closing today on Hagerty Marketplace, and it is being offered without reserve.

Presented by Gateway Classic Cars Tulsa, this four-wheel-drive CJ-5 represents one of the final chapters of a model line that dates back to 1954. By 1979, the CJ-5 had cemented its reputation with a short wheelbase, rounded fenders, and unmistakable military-inspired styling that helped define the early sport-utility segment.
Under the hood is AMC’s 258-cubic-inch inline-six, rated at 110 horsepower. Known for durability and strong low-end torque, the 258 became a staple of Jeep performance during this era. Power is routed through a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case, feeding solid axles suspended by leaf springs. The Jeep retains its four-wheel-drive system with locking hubs, reinforcing its trail-ready character.

This example has been refinished in blue over a black vinyl interior and shows 61,600 miles indicated, listed as true mileage unknown. It features a number of upgrades, including power steering, a suspension lift to accommodate 33-inch Dunlop Mud Rover tires, Warn locking hubs, and custom wheels. Additional modifications include Leon Rosser bucket seats, a sport steering wheel, a Boss AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth and AUX capability, an AutoGage 8,000-rpm tachometer, and a center console with cup holders.

Exterior additions include fender flare trim, nerf bars, a grille cover, fabric soft doors, and a Valley swing-out rear spare tire carrier. The Jeep is also equipped with a hoop roll bar and a 90-mph speedometer. Included with the sale are a swing-away rear-mounted spare tire, an axe, and a fire extinguisher.
The seller notes cosmetic imperfections and paint flaws consistent with age, along with some paint loss and corrosion in the engine bay and underside. The driver’s seat vinyl outer seam is splitting. The vehicle is offered with a clean Illinois title.

With its classic inline-six power, manual gearbox, and no-reserve status, this 1979 Jeep CJ-5 offers bidders a chance to secure a vintage open-air 4x4 as the auction concludes today. See it here.
