Few builds capture the spirit of American hot rodding quite like a channeled Model A with a small-block wedged between the framerails, and this 1929 Ford roadster pickup currently listed on Bring a Trailer is a textbook example. It rides in the same territory we cover in our roundups of classic truck features, and it has already drawn plenty of attention among this week's live auctions.
According to the seller, the truck started life as a stock Model A pickup that was picked up by a friend's family back in the 1960s. It sat as a family vehicle for decades before the current owner took on a ground-up hot rod transformation between 2015 and 2019, turning a humble farm hauler into a show-quality driver.
The steel body was channeled over a Boling Brothers 2-8 frame, which carries a 2-inch up-sweep at the front and an 8-inch Z in the rear for that low, purposeful stance. The top was chopped 4.5 inches and the truck retains a fold-out windshield along with a removable vinyl soft top featuring a zip-out rear window. Finished in a deep Ferrari Grigio Scuro paint, the body was further tidied up with a bed roll pan, a steel cab floor in place of the original wood, LED taillights and turn signals, and a flush-mount rear plate. Pinstriping was added by Von Hot Rod at the 2019 L.A. Roadster show, a nice nod to traditional hot rod artistry.

Underneath, the truck rides on staggered Coker whitewalls mounted to 15-inch steel wheels wearing chrome spider caps, with powder-coated hairpins up front. A So-Cal drop axle and Speedway front disc brakes handle steering and stopping duties, while a four-link rear setup with coilovers keeps the back end planted. The bed floor was fitted with a custom support so the raised wood section can be displayed open, revealing a tidy storage area for the battery and fire extinguisher.

Motivation comes from a Chevrolet 327ci V8 crowned with an Edelbrock intake and carburetor under a chrome scoop, along with HEI ignition for reliable spark. Power routes through a three-speed automatic transmission fitted with a shift kit, then to an 8-inch rear end geared at 3.55:1, a combination that should make this pickup an easy, torquey cruiser.

Inside, black upholstery keeps things simple and true to the truck's hot rod roots, while a '40-style steering wheel mounted on an Ididit column adds a period-correct touch behind the wheel. It's a cabin built for driving rather than showing off, which suits a build with this much attention paid to the mechanical side.

Since completing the build, the truck has reportedly been featured in multiple magazines and articles, including cover appearances, and the seller notes it has picked up several show awards along the way. The sale includes a custom-fit vehicle cover, copies of the literature it has appeared in, a binder of build receipts, and hundreds of build photographs, giving a new owner plenty of documentation to go along with the truck itself. It's titled as a 1929 Ford in Texas under VIN A3552871, with the title noting a VIN certification waived remark.
As of this writing, bidding sits at $10,000 across 12 bids, with the auction set to close on Friday, July 10 at 1:15 p.m. The seller, listed as joegio, is located in Lewisville, Texas. Whether it sells to a driver or a collector, this pickup is a solid reminder that a well-executed hot rod build never really goes out of style.
