Restored 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer CST

A restored 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer CST is scheduled to appear at the Barrett-Jackson 2026 Scottsdale Auction, highlighting the enduring appeal of one of Chevrolet’s most recognizable early sport utility vehicles. Nearly six decades after the Blazer name first entered the market, examples like this continue to attract attention for their blend of utility, style, and historical significance.

The original Chevrolet Blazer debuted for the 1969 model year as a short-wheelbase, body-on-frame SUV based on the K10 pickup. Designed with standard four-wheel drive and rugged proportions, it was marketed as a vehicle capable of traveling almost anywhere. The first-generation Blazer remained in production through 1972, before the introduction of the square-body second generation in 1973. That design endured until 1991, followed by a brief third generation from 1992 to 1994, after which Chevrolet replaced the Blazer name with Tahoe and introduced a four-door format.

While the Blazer name has been reused on later models and modern crossovers, early two-door Blazers remain the most sought after. Many have lived hard working lives, making well-preserved or carefully restored examples increasingly desirable among collectors and enthusiasts.

The 1972 K5 Blazer CST headed to Scottsdale retains its original body panels but has undergone a comprehensive restoration elsewhere. The chassis and suspension components were refinished to factory specifications, according to auction information. The exterior wears a fresh orange-and-white paint scheme, complemented by renewed brightwork and woodgrain trim. A removable white hardtop allows for open-air driving, while replacement weatherstripping helps seal the cabin when installed. New BFGoodrich KO2 tires provide modern off-road capability.

Inside, the cabin features ivory vinyl upholstery on the seats and door panels, paired with brown carpeting. The dashboard is finished in orange with a brown upper pad, while matching tones extend to the door panels. A caramel-tan two-spoke steering wheel adds a distinctive finishing touch.

Power comes from a rebuilt 350-cubic-inch V8 that has been modernized with a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system. A serpentine belt setup drives the accessories, and power is delivered through a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case.

The Barrett-Jackson 2026 Scottsdale Auction runs from Jan. 17 to Jan. 25, where this restored K5 Blazer will offer bidders a chance to own a classic off-road icon prepared for both show and use.
