A newly revealed restomod project blending Italian design with Japanese performance heritage is drawing attention as fresh images of the reimagined Honda NSX surface ahead of its eventual debut.
The project, known as the Tensei, is being developed by JAS Motorsport with styling led by Pininfarina. Recently showcased at Milan Design Week, updated renderings provide the clearest look yet at the car, highlighting a design that stays faithful to the original while introducing subtle yet purposeful changes.
The first-generation NSX, a mid-engine sports car sold as an Acura in North America, remains one of the most recognizable vehicles of the 1990s. Its all-aluminum construction and balanced proportions helped define its appeal, while its V-6 engine earned admiration from prominent automotive figures. Though it fell short of becoming the Ferrari competitor Honda initially envisioned, the model built a strong reputation for performance and design.
Pininfarina’s interpretation does not stray far from that legacy. Instead of dramatically reshaping the car, the design firm focused on refinement. The Tensei features a longer wheelbase and a wider track, giving it a more planted stance. A shorter rear overhang and slightly reduced ride height enhance its athletic presence, while softened edges bring a more modern, sculpted look without losing the original’s identity.
Power is expected to come from a naturally aspirated V-6 engine inspired by the NSX’s original VTEC unit, which produced 290 horsepower and 224 pound-feet of torque at the end of its production run. In a move likely to resonate with enthusiasts, the car will be offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.
While key specifications remain under wraps, the project signals a continued interest in blending classic design with contemporary engineering. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced, though the cost is expected to reflect the growing value of first-generation NSX models, which have reached significant figures at auction.
The Tensei represents a careful evolution of an iconic sports car, aimed at preserving its character while sharpening its overall presence for a new era.
