Magnus Walker’s 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera, Guards Red with Aerokit and upgrades, is offered for sale after six years of ownership.
An early water-cooled Porsche 911 once owned by famed collector and urban outlaw Magnus Walker has come up for sale, offering enthusiasts a chance to own not only a significant model in Porsche’s history but also one with notable provenance.
Walker’s 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera, finished in Guards Red and equipped with the desirable factory Aerokit, shows approximately 73,000 miles. The car is far from stock, benefitting from a series of carefully chosen upgrades that enhance its performance and drivability while maintaining the essence of the original 996-generation 911. Walker acquired the car about six years ago through a Bring a Trailer auction.
The 996 Carrera marked a pivotal moment for Porsche when it debuted in 1997, introducing liquid-cooled engines to the 911 lineup. Powered by a 3.4-liter flat-six, the Carrera produced 296 horsepower, allowing a 0–60 mph sprint in about five seconds and a top speed of 174 mph. It was a leap forward in performance and refinement, though its “fried egg” headlamp design drew criticism from some purists.
Despite divided opinions, the 996 became Porsche’s most-produced 911 up to that time, with over 175,000 units sold. Its success ensured Porsche’s financial survival during a crucial era and paved the way for future high-performance variants, including the Turbo, GT2, and GT3.
Walker’s Carrera reflects his philosophy of blending originality with subtle customization. In addition to its Aerokit bodywork, the car features upgraded suspension components and other tasteful modifications that sharpen its handling without compromising its usability. As with much of Walker’s collection, the upgrades were chosen with a driver-first mindset.
For collectors, the appeal lies not just in the model itself but in its connection to one of the most recognized personalities in Porsche culture. This Guards Red Carrera represents both the controversial beginning of Porsche’s modern era and a personal chapter in Walker’s celebrated automotive journey.
