Jaguar XJS Reimagined: Meet the 650-HP Carbon Fiber Supercat

The iconic Jaguar XJS returns as the 650-horsepower TWR Supercat, blending classic design with modern performance and cutting-edge technology.

The Jaguar XJS, a timeless symbol of luxury and performance, has been reimagined as the TWR Supercat—a 650-horsepower, carbon fiber-bodied masterpiece. Spearheaded by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), under the leadership of Tom’s son Fergus Walkinshaw, this contemporary homage pays tribute to British motorsport history while redefining what a grand tourer can achieve on the track.

A Modern Take on a Classic

The Supercat’s design, helmed by visionary Khyzyl Saleem, stays true to the iconic proportions of the original Jaguar XJS. Saleem drew inspiration from the 70s and 80s motorsport eras, including IMSA, Trans-Am, and Group A touring cars, alongside legendary Jaguar models like the XJR-9 and XJ220.

The XJS's classic roofline and long hood remain intact, but its aggressive new stance includes muscular carbon fiber panels, aerodynamic enhancements, and motorsport-inspired details. A katana-like front splitter, air vents on the bonnet, side-exit exhausts, and a massive rear diffuser create a striking yet functional aesthetic. The flying buttresses—an iconic XJS feature—have been reengineered with input from Mercedes F1 aerodynamicists to channel air efficiently across the rear deck, improving downforce.

Lightweight Carbon Fiber Chassis

Replacing the original steel body with carbon fiber shaves 364 lbs off the Supercat’s weight, bringing it to just 3,538 lbs (1,605 kg). Paired with 18-inch front and 19-inch rear TWR Forged Monoblok wheels, the lighter weight enhances handling and agility while maintaining a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 430 hp/tonne.

A Beast Under the Hood

At its heart lies a 5.6-liter supercharged V12, developed in-house by TWR engineers, producing 650 horsepower and 538.4 lb-ft of torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, ensuring an engaging driving experience reminiscent of classic sports cars. While official performance numbers are not yet released, the Supercat is poised to compete with supercars like the Aston Martin Vantage.

A Celebration of Heritage

The TWR Supercat is more than a modern sports car—it’s a celebration of Jaguar's rich heritage and motorsport legacy. By staying true to the XJS's iconic design cues while incorporating advanced aerodynamics and cutting-edge technology, the Supercat bridges the gap between classic grand tourers and modern supercars.

As TWR resurrects its storied legacy with the Supercat, this reimagined Jaguar XJS is set to captivate enthusiasts with its blend of nostalgia, innovation, and raw performance. Whether on the track or as an exhibition piece, the TWR Supercat redefines what it means to honor a classic.
