The updated model continues Ford’s tribute to American innovation while drawing inspiration from legendary land speed racer Craig Breedlove, the aerospace engineer who became famous for pushing the boundaries of speed with jet-powered machines capable of breaking both the 500- and 600-mph barriers. Ford says the same fearless mentality that defined Breedlove’s record-setting efforts helped shape the development of the Mustang GTD program.
The Spirit of America edition stands out visually with a patriotic design theme layered over a Performance White exterior. Race Red and Lightning Blue stripes run asymmetrically across the bodywork, referencing both American racing heritage and the Mustang’s recognizable tri-bar insignia. Exposed carbon-fiber elements on the front splitter and rear wing create a sharp contrast against the paintwork, while red accents appear on the mirror caps and rear spoiler end plates. Black Forgeline wheels complete the exterior appearance.
Underneath the updated styling package, the mechanical formula remains unchanged. Power continues to come from the Mustang GTD’s supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine producing 815 horsepower. The model also retains the standard Performance Package, which includes advanced aerodynamic components at both ends of the vehicle along with an active rear wing designed to maximize high-speed stability and track capability.
The revised Spirit of America arrives as Ford continues positioning the Mustang GTD as the highest-performance road-going Mustang in the company’s history. The model was initially introduced as a halo performance car designed to compete with some of the world’s most capable sports cars while showcasing the limits of American engineering and design.
When the Spirit of America edition originally debuted in 2025, Ford described it as a celebration of bold thinking and determination. The company connected the car’s aggressive engineering approach to the pioneering mentality of American innovators who challenged established competitors and pursued new performance frontiers.
Interest in the Mustang GTD remains high as Ford keeps production limited. Buyers hoping to secure one of the high-performance models have until May 18 to submit an application for purchase, adding another layer of exclusivity to the already rare Mustang variant.
With its combination of patriotic styling cues, motorsports-inspired aerodynamics, and supercar-level performance figures, the Mustang GTD Spirit of America represents Ford’s latest effort to tie the Mustang nameplate to a broader story of American performance engineering and automotive ambition.
