The Bugatti La Voiture Noire, one of the most exclusive and expensive cars ever built, has resurfaced on the market just four years after its original delivery. The one-off hypercar, created as a tribute to Jean Bugatti’s legendary Type 57 SC Atlantic, is being sold privately.
Unveiled in 2019 and delivered to its secretive owner in 2021, the La Voiture Noire immediately became a symbol of automotive craftsmanship and mystery. Bugatti never revealed the identity of the buyer, fueling speculation within collector circles. Now, the car is being offered through SBX Cars’ Private Treaty Sales Program — a discreet process that caters exclusively to verified high-net-worth collectors.
Rather than a traditional public auction, SBX Cars requires prospective buyers to request an invitation before entering negotiations. The approach reflects the rarity and value of the vehicle, which is widely reported to have cost around $18 million at the time of its sale, making it the most expensive new car ever produced.
The La Voiture Noire, translating to “The Black Car,” stands as a modern reinterpretation of the 1930s Type 57 SC Atlantic that Jean Bugatti designed and subsequently lost track of — a piece of history that has never been recovered. The modern homage features a sculpted carbon-fiber body finished in “Black Carbon Glossy,” with headlights containing more than two dozen individually milled elements per side. Inside, the cabin is wrapped in Havana Brown leather inspired by the original Atlantic’s interior.
With its 1,479-horsepower W16 engine and striking design, the La Voiture Noire remains a defining statement of automotive artistry. For collectors able to access the confidential sale, it represents a rare second chance to own a modern piece of Bugatti history.
