In a world where pristine classic Porsches regularly fetch six-figure sums, one battered 1976 Porsche 911S turned heads for a very different reason. Listed earlier this year on Bring a Trailer, the thoroughly wrecked coupe sold for just $850 — a bargain by any measure — thanks in part to a viral video that made light of its sorry condition.
The car, described as a “project” in the loosest possible sense, was presented by YouTuber and collector Dennis Collins, known for his long-running Coffee Walk series. Collins, who has built a career around flipping and restoring collector vehicles, leaned hard into humor to showcase the derelict 911. In his video, he quipped that the car “gives a whole new meaning to air-cooled,” referencing the fact that the Porsche was missing all of its windows.
The clip features the gutted 911 being strapped to a flatbed for a “test drive,” with Collins joking about the importance of saving even the most hopeless examples of automotive history. Beneath the comedy, there was a genuine message — that even the most neglected classic can hold sentimental or historical value.
According to Collins, the Porsche was discovered in a truly bizarre state: it had reportedly been accidentally buried years ago by an equipment operator. Despite its missing parts and dilapidated shell, the 911 still carried an authentic Porsche VIN — arguably the only part worth more than the sale price.
While Collins said he expected a higher bid, citing another rough 911 he once sold for $8,000, the $850 sale might be the most entertaining bargain in Bring a Trailer history. After all, how often does a half-buried Porsche become an internet sensation?
