A Montreux Blue 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible with a documented run as a promotional car for the famed Tin Indian racing team is currently drawing bids on Hagerty Marketplace, where the top offer has already topped $30,500 with more than a week of bidding still to go.
This particular GTO was delivered new to Knafel Pontiac in Akron, Ohio, a dealership that built a national reputation racing under the Tin Indian banner. Rather than sitting on the showroom floor, the convertible went to work as Knafel's rolling billboard, appearing at promotional events including a reported turn in the Daytona 500 parade lineup. A letter from former owner Bill Knafel, written in 1993, backs up that history and stayed with the car through subsequent ownership changes.
Under the hood is Pontiac's 400-cubic-inch V8, built the second week of May 1967 and linked to a three-speed automatic transmission through a Hurst Dual-Gate "His/Hers" shifter, a setup that let a driver run it as a conventional automatic or shift it manually. The car carries a four-barrel carburetor, power steering, a power-operated white convertible top, Rally-style wheels, bucket seats, a center console, a pushbutton radio, and retractable seat belts, all wrapped in Montreux Blue paint over a blue vinyl interior. Indicated mileage sits at 31,150, described as too low to be certain of full accuracy.
Ownership stayed within the Knafel and Tin Indian orbit until 1983, and the current seller acquired the car in 2022. A ceramic coating was applied in the early 2000s, and the sale includes Pontiac Historic Services documentation, factory build paperwork, period correspondence, and a clean Ohio title.
Where the Market Stands

For a 1967 GTO convertible equipped with the 335-horsepower, four-barrel 400 and configured like this car, Hagerty's price guide currently lists a #3 (Good) condition value of roughly $46,200, up about 7.2 percent over the past year. Because this GTO runs a factory automatic rather than a four-speed, Hagerty's own adjustment guidance knocks about 10 percent off that figure, putting a realistic good-condition benchmark closer to the low-$40,000s, in line with Hagerty's broader estimate that an average-spec 1967 GTO in good condition trades around $41,000. Buyers chasing a manual-transmission Ram Air or HO car will pay considerably more, with Hagerty listing #3 condition values as high as $74,500 for Ram Air-equipped convertibles.
Auction results back up that spread. The most recent comparable sale Hagerty tracked closed at $74,800 through Mecum Auctions, while the broader three-year range for 1967 GTOs stretches from four-figure parts-car money up to $671,000 for the rarest, best-documented examples.
