CFS: 1960 Ford Starliner

This rare fastback variant of the Ford Galaxie was only produced between 1960 and 1961.

Ford’s Galaxie of the 1950s and 1960s was a classic full-size American car which encompassed the ethos of bigger being better. The Galaxie came in a multiple of variants with a wide range of engines on offer, but one of the rarest variants of this model was the 1 year only Starliner. This fully restored example for sale with Lost and Found Classic Car Co is something of a rarity today.

Presented as the top-flight Galaxie variant in 1960, the Starliner was a real flagship model with its own unique styling. The distinctive and considerably more sporting fastback roofline and additional chrome separated it from lesser Galaxies, however, by 1961 the model was dropped and replaced by the Galaxie 500 and 500 XL.

More on Ford

This 1960 Ford Starliner has benefited from an extensive restoration that included a bare metal respray. Looking resplendent in Cherry Red with a contrasting roof, the unblemished Starliner is certainly eye-catching. While based on the Galaxie, you won’t find any reference to it with Starliner script proudly on display alongside a bespoke logo.

The immaculate interior is positively cavernous, and houses two enormous bench seats capable of accommodating all of the family. Its dashboard is complete with more obligatory Starliner badging and an old-school factory radio. The red trim that matches this cars exterior colour is also a nice stylistic touch.

As mentioned, this car has been restored, but also upgraded to a 390 cubic inch V8 engine to give this American giant some real grunt. A C-6 automatic transmission sends power to a Ford 9-inch Posi rear end. Fresh tires, a new dual exhaust, and disc brakes signifies that this classic is ready for action.

The Starliner was only built between 1960 and 1961, and so these rare variants of the Galaxie are sought after models today. This restored example has a sticker price of $32,500.
