Everyone dreams of owning a Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. However, finding one in even remotely good condition might sometimes be pretty tricky. If you’re looking for a turn-key solution which won’t fail you in the middle of nowhere during a rugged backcountry adventure, this 1980 Toyota FJCO FJ40 Sport could be the perfect fit. It’s being sold right now through Vintage Cruisers.

There are a lot of reasons to consider this rig. Frist off, all the work has been done professionally by people who deal with Land Cruisers all the time, so you know it’s been performed correctly. The last thing you want is something critical to break when you’re far away from civilization. It has been specifically built for high-altitude adventures and extreme weather conditions.

Capability is key here. Those Goodyear MT/R tires are tough and have a lot of bite. An aftermarket front bumper can take serious hits, plus it has LED auxiliary lights mounted to it as well as a Warn winch. Mounted to the passenger side is a Hi-Lift Jack, there’s a jerrycan on the rear of this ride, plus there are all kinds of tools like a recovery shovel, so you can get yourself out of all kinds of situations.

This FJ40 got a serious upgrade in the engine department with a fuel-injected Toyota 1FZ. It provides 210-horsepower and works with a 5-speed manual transmission, so you’re ready for just about anything. On top of that, this rig has an Old Man Emu suspension, Fox shocks, and ARB air lockers.

While definitely rugged, this FJ40 Land Cruiser is also quite comfortable. The interior has been modernized in numerous ways, like the Recaro Speed front seats and Saddle vinyl upholstery. Modern climate control systems keep you at the right temperature, no matter what’s going on outside. A digital gauge cluster and premium sound system sit next to the original pull-knob controls. The cargo area has two large slide-out drawers to stash all kinds of equipment. This vehicle is seriously loaded.

If you were to acquire a Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, fix any issues with rust and the mechanicals, plus install all the aftermarket equipment, costs would balloon in a hurry. Contact Vintage Cruisers to find out about pricing, which is advertised as being competitive. You might be pleasantly surprised.
