Building a Porsche 911 933 Speedster

The Porsche 993 Speedster was a one-off for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's birthday. However, this replica comes pretty close.

The 993 generation of Porsche is celebrated as the final air-cooled 911. Purists lament the day the German sports car manufacturer changed with the times and moved to water-cooling, hence the love for this model. Petrolicious’ latest film stars one of the rarest 933 cars in the form of the 911 Speedster.

Porsche never officially offered the 993 Speedster to the public, it was a one-off built for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and presented on his 60th Birthday. However, a handful of shops have created faithful reconstructions of this unicorn car. Jerry Seinfeld wanted one so badly that he sent his own 993 Cabriolet back to the Porsche factory to be converted for an undisclosed sum.

Karen and her husband Jäger love 933s, and so it didn’t take long for the couple to start thinking about the Speedster. Seinfeld had just decided he didn’t want to sell his anymore, so the pair made plans to create their own. Using all OEM 964 Speedster parts, a Porsche master technician, and months of painstaking research, another Speedster was born. Finished a beautiful shade of red, the curvaceous sports car looks great driving through the landscape.

Its bespoke carbon fiber interior seats two and was actually constructed by the gentleman who did the original carbon work on the Speedster in Germany. The attention to detail is incredible and befitting of any modern-day supercar. The 993 has won many awards but Karen says that the people’s choice award it won at a Porsche parade means the most.

Its flat-six engine sounds incredible and Karen goes on to explain how it’s quite the event behind the wheel. ‘Your senses are all working together to deliver that experience and that joy that we get. It’s taking you somewhere else, and it doesn’t really matter where that is at the moment. It’s a break from everything else that’s going on in life.’

This car was truly a labor of love, and the end result is a car that money can’t buy.
