A meticulously restored 1958 Porsche 356 A 1600 Speedster is set to cross the auction block at the Porsche Air|Water Auction 2026, carrying an estimated value between $425,000 and $475,000. The vehicle represents one of the final production examples of the iconic Speedster line and showcases a detailed history paired with an extensive, high-quality restoration.

Originally finished in Silver Metallic, the car has been returned to its factory-correct exterior color and now features a green leather interior with classic Speedster bucket seats. The restoration was completed over six years by Grand Prix Classics in La Jolla, California, concluding in 2021. Since then, the car has logged fewer than 300 miles, underscoring its fresh condition.

This Speedster retains its original matching-numbers engine, transmission, and chassis, further enhancing its desirability among collectors. Documentation includes a digital copy of the factory Kardex warranty card, confirming its U.S. delivery through importer Max Hoffman in early 1958. The Kardex also verifies the original drivetrain components, which remain intact nearly seven decades later.

The car’s history spans multiple decades, including ownership in California and participation in notable driving events such as the Copperstate 1000 and Speedster-focused gatherings. Over time, it underwent various modifications before eventually being reunited with its original engine and restored to factory specifications.

The recent restoration involved contributions from several respected specialists in the Porsche community. The 1.6-liter flat-four engine was rebuilt by John Willhoit and upgraded to produce 110 horsepower. Additional work included refinishing the body to bare metal, restoring gauges, rebuilding carburetors, and installing a new wiring harness.
Today, the Speedster presents as a highly accurate and carefully assembled example of Porsche’s late-production T2 variant. With its documented history, restored originality, and limited post-restoration mileage, it stands as a compelling offering for collectors seeking one of the most celebrated models in Porsche’s early lineup.
