A restored Japan-only 1970 Datsun Fairlady Z432, powered by the GT-R’s S20 engine, is set for auction in the UK.
A rare 1970 Datsun Fairlady Z432, powered by the legendary S20 inline-six from the early Skyline GT-R, is set to cross the auction block in the UK through Iconic Auctioneers, with an estimated sale price between £120,000 and £140,000 ($159,000–$186,000 USD).
The Fairlady Z432, a Japan-exclusive variant of the Datsun Z series, is one of the most coveted models among collectors of Japanese performance cars. Only 420 units were built, all for the domestic market, and just a small number have ever been exported.
Unlike the standard Datsun 240Z, which was powered by a larger-displacement L24 engine, the Z432 featured the 2.0-liter DOHC S20 engine originally developed for the “Hakosuka” Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R. Producing 160 horsepower and revving to 7,000 rpm, the triple-carbureted powerplant gave the lighter Z chassis an exceptional power-to-weight ratio for its time. The “Z432” name reflects the engine’s four valves per cylinder, three Mikuni carburetors, and two camshafts.
This particular Z432 was imported into the UK in 2018 after a restoration in Japan and is finished in its correct yellow color. Mechanical updates totaling £7,000 were recently performed to ensure road readiness. Subtle modifications, such as roll cage mounts and wider rear arches, suggest it may have had a racing past—potentially increasing its desirability to collectors.
As the Datsun Z series gains further appreciation worldwide, early and rare examples like the Z432 continue to attract top-tier valuations. Its combination of performance pedigree, limited production, and historical relevance make this car a standout offering on the international auction scene.
