The fourth-generation Toyota Pickup shown here has undergone a comprehensive transformation centered around the installation of a 4.0-liter 1UZ-FE V8 sourced from a 1992 Lexus LS400. Known for its smooth operation and durability, the all-aluminum engine was originally developed for luxury sedan duty but has become increasingly popular in custom off-road and truck builds due to its balance of reliability and performance. In factory specification, the engine was capable of producing up to 290 brake horsepower.
The engine swap was completed in April 2024 by the seller’s shop after the truck was acquired from Arizona earlier in the year. During installation, various seals and bearings were refreshed, and Toyota-sourced components were reportedly used wherever possible throughout the conversion process. Power is delivered through a five-speed manual transmission paired with a dual-range transfer case, while a billet Marlin Crawler short-throw shifter adds a more precise feel to gear changes.
Finished in Silver Metallic following a repaint completed in 2024, the truck also features a variety of exterior upgrades designed to enhance both appearance and utility. Modifications include side graphics, a grille guard, mud flaps, a receiver hitch, a bed liner, an LED light bar, and a roll bar fitted with KC auxiliary lights.
The suspension system has also been modernized with Fox Performance shock absorbers and Aisin manually locking front hubs. The truck rides on 15-inch Raceline Rockcrusher wheels wrapped in 32-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires, reinforcing its off-road-ready stance. Power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes handle stopping duties, while power steering improves drivability both on and off pavement.
Inside, the overhauled cabin retains much of the truck’s classic utility-focused character while incorporating modern comfort upgrades. Patterned blue cloth bucket seats, matching door panels, a power window conversion, air conditioning, an AM/FM radio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel help blend vintage pickup charm with everyday usability.
The growing popularity of trucks like this reflects renewed appreciation for older Toyota Pickups and Hilux models, which many enthusiasts see as easier to maintain and modify than modern trucks loaded with electronic systems. The fourth-generation platform, produced from 1983 through 1988, remains especially iconic thanks to its connection to 1980s culture and its reputation for toughness.
