A true icon of the golden muscle car era, a 1969 Dodge Super Bee A12 Hardtop is now up for auction out of Marine City, Michigan. Offered without reserve, the high-performance Mopar has drawn strong attention with more than 13,000 views and active bidding climbing past $65,000.
Introduced halfway through 1969, the A12 package elevated the Super Bee from a stylish mid-level performer into a serious drag-strip weapon. Beneath its matte black lift-off fiberglass hood sits the legendary 440-cubic-inch “Six-Pack” V8, equipped with three Holley two-barrel carburetors. The engine was conservatively rated at 390 horsepower and 490 pound-feet of torque—figures that made it one of the quickest street cars of its time.
This particular example features the heavy-duty A833 four-speed manual gearbox and Dana 60 rear axle with 4.10:1 gears. Factory options include 11-inch drum brakes, heavy-duty suspension, and the bold Bumblebee stripe over its HEMI Orange paint. According to Mopar authority Galen Govier, this car is a verified, authentic A12 and retains much of its original specification.
The odometer reads 54,700 miles, supported by ownership documentation and the original factory build sheet. The car has undergone careful refurbishments over the years, including an engine rebuild in 1992 and another repaint in its original color in 2024. Three new factory-correct Holley carburetors were also fitted this year to maintain performance authenticity.
Originally sold in Pennsylvania, the car passed through several longtime owners, including a Texas physician who restored and preserved it for years. Now presented with its full documentation and service history, this A12 Super Bee represents one of the most accurate and desirable surviving examples of Dodge’s no-nonsense muscle machine.
