Some classics are built to sit under a cover. This isn't one of them. A B20E-powered 1963 Volvo P1800 is now up for auction on Hagerty Marketplace, offered with no reserve from the Snook's Dream Cars Collection in Bowling Green, Ohio, and it's the kind of early, Jensen-built coupe that looks as good as it drives. With four days left in the sale, bidding sits at $25,250 after 30 bids.
One of the Early English-Built Cars
The P1800 has always been the odd one out in Volvo's history, and that's exactly why people love it. Pelle Petterson's flowing fastback shape brought Italian-influenced elegance to a company known for sensible sedans, while the running gear stayed as tough as anything wearing the Volvo badge. The result became a TV star, a high-mileage legend, and one of the most distinctive sports coupes of the 1960s.
This example, chassis 4599, comes from the early production run that Volvo contracted out to Jensen in England before assembly moved home to Sweden. Those early cars carry a special kind of appeal for P1800 fans, and this one has been restored to a standard that its seller believes beats how either an English or Swedish car left the line back in the day.
Restored, Upgraded, and Proven on the Show Field
Before joining the Snook's collection in 2025, the Volvo was restored and upgraded by a California-based owner. The biggest change sits under the hood: a later 2.0-liter B20E inline-four fed by SU carburetors, mated to a four-speed manual with overdrive. It's the sort of sympathetic upgrade that makes an early P1800 even better on the open road without losing its character.
The work paid off. The car went on to collect numerous first-place awards in the Modified P1800 class at Volvo meets. The collection is only its fourth owner, and the dashboard still wears Volvo's 100,000-mile and 200,000-mile plaques, a nod to the brand's famous durability and this car's long, well-used life. Fans of the later 1970 Volvo P1800E will recognize the tan leather 1800E seats that now replace the original red vinyl.
Looks Right From Every Angle
Originally white, the coupe was stripped and refinished in a rich green in 2002, and according to the seller the paint still shows a high gloss and deep luster. The interior pairs those tan leather seats with a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and the door panels and rear seat are described as being in very nice condition. New 15x5.5 Minilite wheels wrapped in Vredestein 165HR15 Sprint Classic tires were fitted in 2025, giving the car a period-correct, sporty stance.

Maintained by People Who Drive Their Cars
Snook's Dream Cars began when Bill Snook and his son Jeff restored a 1929 Model A in 1963, and the family collection eventually became a public museum with a simple mission: every car running, reliable, and ready to show. That philosophy shows in this Volvo's paperwork. Since 2025 it has had fresh coolant, brake service and fluid, a tune-up and valve adjustment, a rebuilt fuel gauge, oil and differential fluid changes, and a new valve cover gasket. In May 2026 the speedometer and tachometer were overhauled.
The seller reports the engine starts easily and runs well, and in the listing's comments Jeff Snook noted that everything works, down to the clock, with the lone exception of the courtesy lights. The doors are said to open, close, and fit as they should.
The sale also includes a three-ring binder of receipts going back to 1968 along with earlier restoration records, the original Volvo P1800 instruction book with its case, various manuals and parts books, and tan carpeted floor mats. It will change hands with a clean Ohio title.
