Some collections are built around a single marque, era, or level of finish. The Generous Collection is compelling for the opposite reason: it is sprawling, deeply personal, and almost impossible to predict from one row to the next.
Hagerty Marketplace currently lists 268 active auctions from the Alabama collection, all offered without reserve. Those cars follow 239 published results from an earlier round, turning this into one of the broadest collector-car dispersals of the year. Prewar sedans sit beside muscle cars, pickups, hot rods, modern performance machines, oddball imports, and plenty of projects.
The collection’s name is not just marketing. According to the auction descriptions, collector Greg Rusk built it from a lifelong enthusiasm for cars and a desire to support people in his Alabama community. A business leader in the cardboard industry, Rusk was known to pay unusually generous prices when buying an interesting vehicle from a family or friend who needed help. Decades later, the Rusk family is sending those cars back into the enthusiast world.
Many have spent years in long-term warehouse storage, and Hagerty is unusually direct about what that means: not every car will be running, most will need meaningful mechanical attention, and bidders should expect the cleaning, sorting, and surprises that come with prolonged static display. That caveat is part of the appeal. This is less a room full of concours trophies than a vast catalog of possible next chapters.
Six standouts from the live auctions
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-Speed Project
The ’57 Chevy remains one of the most recognizable American cars ever made, and this black two-door hardtop has the right visual ingredients: jet-age fins, gold Bel Air trim, black-and-silver upholstery, and a pillarless roofline. A modified small-block V8, a reportedly four-speed manual transmission, and 17-inch aftermarket wheels give it a hot-rod flavor. The listing plainly calls it a project, making this an icon for someone willing to finish the story.
1,100-Mile 2022 Dodge Challenger R/T Blacktop 6-Speed
At the opposite end of the age spectrum is a one-owner Challenger showing roughly 1,100 miles. Finished in Smoke Show with the Blacktop Package, it combines Dodge’s 375-horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with a six-speed Tremec manual. The equipment list includes a power sunroof, heated seats and steering wheel, 20-inch Black Noise wheels, blind-spot monitoring, and the blacked-out trim that gives the package its name. In a collection defined by long-stored classics, this nearly new muscle car is a striking outlier.
1972 Chevrolet C10 Custom Fleetside Pickup 350
Square-body trucks may dominate today’s restomod scene, but this C10 represents the final year of Chevrolet’s handsome 1967–72 generation. Its orange paint, smooth-sided Fleetside bed, chrome Custom-trim accents, and black-and-white houndstooth seat deliver vintage pickup charm. Power comes from a 350-cubic-inch V8, rated at 250 horsepower when new, backed by a three-speed automatic. It is the kind of truck that could be preserved, recommissioned, or used as the foundation for a period-minded build.
1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra
Ford built just 4,993 examples of the 1993 Cobra, the first production model from its Special Vehicle Team and a fitting finale for the Fox-body Mustang. This black-on-black example retains its 5.0-liter Cobra V8 and five-speed manual while adding a Holley Terminator X EFI system. The odometer indicates 76,000 miles, though total mileage is unknown. The listing also notes interior wear, a cracked mirror, and underbody rust, so the Cobra’s rarity comes with a clear need for close inspection.
Small-Block V8-Powered 1934 Ford Model 40
This ’34 Ford shows how eclectic the collection can be. Beneath its two-tone tan-and-orange finish is a fiberglass body with shaved suicide doors, a Chevrolet small-block V8, rack-and-pinion steering, front disc brakes, a custom VDO gauge cluster, and American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. It is an old-school street rod rather than a restored prewar Ford—and an appealing snapshot of the way enthusiasts customized these cars for decades.
1973 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
The 1973 Corvette occupies a one-year styling sweet spot: it was the first C3 with a body-color urethane front bumper and the last with a chrome rear bumper. This Medium Blue Metallic convertible pairs a white soft top with a blue cabin and uses a replacement L48 350-cubic-inch V8 with a three-speed automatic. A luggage rack, 15-inch steel wheels with chrome rims, and the classic long-hood C3 profile complete the look.
A collection for patient enthusiasts
The Generous Collection’s breadth is its real headline. There are glamorous choices, but also humble sedans, half-finished projects, unusual survivors, and cars that may be worth saving precisely because few people saved them the first time around. Every lot is offered without reserve, yet the hammer price will only be the beginning for many buyers.
Prospective bidders should read each listing carefully, review the extensive photo galleries, arrange an inspection when possible, and budget for transport plus thorough mechanical recommissioning before any road use. Pickup requirements are also tightly scheduled and vary by listing. The opportunity is real, but so is the responsibility that comes with waking a long-dormant car.
