The SUV had to start somewhere. This 1950 GMC Carryall Suburban, up for auction on Hagerty Marketplace from a seller in Ipswich, Massachusetts, shows how early the idea took hold.
The Carryall combined GMC’s light-duty truck underpinnings with an enclosed three-row body. This example has two side doors and barn-style rear doors, a 228-cubic-inch inline-six and a three-speed manual. It is finished in two-tone maroon and cream over brown vinyl and shows about 58,200 miles.
The seller says they have owned it for about 20 years and, during that time, had the head repaired, the clutch and rear main seal replaced and work done on the suspension and brakes. It comes with some takeoff spare parts and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.
