The 1964 Oldsmobile 442 was launched quickly in response to the success of the GTO.

The 1964 Oldsmobile 442 was launched quickly in response to the success of the GTO. It was an option on the F-85 and Cutlass and came with a 4-barrel carb, 4-speed transmission, and dual exhaust, thus 4-4-2.

The package also included heavy-duty shocks, springs, and a rear stabilizer bar, as well as the top 330 V8 engine that was modified with all available Police issued equipment including a dual-snorkel air cleaner, and premium quality rod and main bearings.

It was released late in the model year and only 2,999 cars were produced with the 442 option.
