Zora Arkus-Duntov’s Personal Corvette to Headline National Corvette Museum’s 31st Anniversary Celebration

The only Corvette owned by Zora Arkus-Duntov debuts after a detailed preservation at the National Corvette Museum’s anniversary event.

The only Corvette ever owned by Zora Arkus-Duntov, the legendary “Godfather of the Corvette,” will make its public debut during the National Corvette Museum’s 31st Anniversary Celebration, held August 28–30, 2025, in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

This 1974 custom two-tone blue Corvette Stingray—a retirement gift from Chevrolet—has undergone a painstaking, multi-year preservation effort led by the Museum’s Collections and Preservation team. The car was fully disassembled, with the body separated from the chassis to allow thorough inspection, cleaning, and stabilization of every component. Importantly, no attempt was made to erase its authentic character. Zora’s well-worn leather armrest, creased from years of his driving, was intentionally preserved as a direct link to the man who helped shape Corvette history.

“This car represents Corvette history in its purest form,” said Robert Maxhimer, Director of Curatorial Affairs and Education at the National Corvette Museum. “Preserving Zora’s personal Corvette is the first of many in-depth preservation projects that will ensure our collection lasts for generations.”

Powered by a 454 big-block V8, the car features an automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, air conditioning, and aluminum wheels. While it left the factory in silver and was later painted green, the car gained its now-famous two-tone blue paint after Zora asked a friend to repaint it. The friend added his own surprise touch: Zora’s initials, “ZAD,” emblazoned on the doors.

The Corvette will serve as the centerpiece of a reimagined Corvette Hall of Fame exhibition, debuting during the anniversary weekend. Visitors will have access to behind-the-scenes presentations on the preservation process, giving enthusiasts a rare glimpse into the techniques used to maintain such an important piece of Corvette history.
