Trio Charged After Two Classic Chevrolets Stolen in Rural Virginia Burglary

A break-in in the small community of Bassett, Virginia, has led to the recovery of two classic Chevrolet muscle cars and the arrest of three men now facing a series of charges. The burglary, reported on Nov. 17, 2025, involved the theft of a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle and several household items, all taken sometime between Nov. 5 and Nov. 17.

Bassett, a town of roughly 1,100 residents located about an hour north of Greensboro, North Carolina, offered investigators a fairly limited pool of suspects. Deputies made early progress, recovering the stolen Chevelle within an hour of receiving the initial report. The Camaro, however, required public assistance to track down.

Authorities asked residents for help locating the missing car, and the search quickly widened beyond county lines. On Nov. 20, a tipster contacted law enforcement to report a blue Chevrolet Camaro concealed in the woods just inside Patrick County. Deputies from both Henry and Patrick counties responded, confirmed the car was the stolen vehicle and located a man nearby who appeared connected to the crime.

Deputies identified him as 45-year-old Bobby Eugene Leagans. He had the keys to the Camaro in his pocket and was already wanted in Henry County for a probation violation. His arrest set off a chain of developments that ultimately tied two more individuals to the burglary investigation.

In total, three men now face grand larceny and related charges. Leagans and 38-year-old Brent Ray Doss are being held without bail, while 60-year-old William Alfred Doss was granted a $5,000 secured bond. After authorities released mugshots, one community member joked publicly that the trio resembled family members on an outing gone wrong.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office continues to collect information and encourages anyone with additional details to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers as the case proceeds.
