A Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS restored over more than two decades is now up for sale after its owner logged just 209 miles behind the wheel, drawing significant attention from collectors.
The Chevelle was originally positioned as a key player in Chevrolet’s push into the intermediate car market, tasked with complementing the brand’s already successful full-size Impala lineup. During this period, Chevrolet relied heavily on shared components across models, offering engines already familiar to buyers of other Chevrolet vehicles.

Base Chevelle buyers could opt for a 194-cubic-inch six-cylinder engine, a powerplant also found in the Nova. For those wanting a bit more displacement, a 230-cubic-inch six-cylinder engine borrowed from larger cars such as the Impala and Bel Air was available. V8 buyers could step up to the 283-cubic-inch Turbo-Fire engine, producing up to 220 horsepower and sourced from Chevrolet’s full-size offerings.
The Malibu SS designation marked the highest trim level available for the Chevelle during this model year. These cars featured Malibu SS badging on the rear quarters, signaling their status as top-tier Chevelles. The Malibu SS nameplate was discontinued after the 1965 model year in the United States, though it continued for Canadian-market vehicles.
This particular Chevelle is described as a genuine Malibu SS. Its restoration began in 2001 and was not completed until 2022, resulting in a 21-year process aimed at returning the car to a spotless condition. The vehicle is now being sold on consignment, accompanied by a comprehensive photo archive documenting the restoration, a detail often valued by collectors.

Despite the extensive work, the current owner barely drove the car, adding only 209 miles before deciding to sell due to limited space in a climate-controlled storage facility. While the Chevelle is no longer all-original, the restoration included a replacement 350-cubic-inch engine fitted with an Edelbrock intake manifold and a four-barrel carburetor. Additional updates include an aluminum radiator, new alternator, new chrome trim, new spare tire, and new seatbelts.
The Chevelle is offered with extensive documentation, including receipts, manuals, parts catalogs, and original paperwork. Listed on eBay, the auction has attracted strong interest, with 55 bids placed and more than 40 watchers tracking its progress. As of the latest update, the highest bid of $15,600 had not met the reserve price. If it fails to sell, the car will remain in Sarasota, Florida, and is expected to be relisted.
