The Nissan Z, one of the few remaining traditional rear-wheel-drive sports cars on the market, may soon become even harder to find. A new report indicates that dealerships across the country are expected to receive only two to three units of the 2027 Nissan Z each for the entire model year.
At a time when SUVs dominate showroom floors with their blend of passenger space, cargo capacity and all-weather capability, two-seat sports cars have become niche offerings. Vehicles like the Nissan Z and Toyota GR Supra continue to serve enthusiasts who value performance and simplicity, but they occupy a small slice of overall sales. As a result, dealerships often dedicate limited space to such models.

According to the report, Nissan has adjusted its approach for the 2027 Z. While every Nissan dealer will still be able to order the car for customers, most locations are not expected to carry more than a few examples in inventory. Instead, the strategy is designed to encourage buyers to place custom orders tailored to their preferences.
Dealers are expected to keep at least one unit on hand primarily for test drives, allowing potential customers to experience the car before configuring their own version. The shift reflects the nature of sports car purchases, which are often emotional decisions made after long consideration. Buyers in this segment frequently have specific expectations regarding color, interior trim and performance packages, making unsold inventory a greater risk.
By maintaining what it describes as sustainable inventory levels, Nissan aims to better match production with demand while ensuring customers receive a personalized vehicle.
Pricing for the 2027 Nissan Z has not yet been announced. However, it is expected to align closely with the 2026 model currently on sale, which starts at $44,215 including destination fees and climbs to just under $70,000 for the high-performance Nismo variant.
