A race-prepared Porsche 2.8-liter flat-six engine linked to the late Porsche Master Mechanic David Glenn is drawing significant attention as bidding enters its final day. Listed as Lot 32 and currently sitting at $85,000 with 19 bids, the engine is offered without reserve and has already accumulated more than 8,000 views. The auction, hosted through Hagerty Marketplace, is set to end Thursday, Dec. 11, at 3:05 p.m. EST. The unit is located in Savannah, Georgia.
The engine originates from Glenn’s extensive personal collection, one assembled over a five-decade career that included senior roles with Kremer Racing, RUF Automobile, and Porsche Motorsport North America. His workshop, preserved much as he maintained it, includes a wide array of Porsche components, tools, road cars, race cars, and reference materials, all being offered across more than 70 no-reserve lots.
According to information passed down through the Glenn workshop, this Type 911/72 engine—representative of the specification developed for the 1973 911 Carrera RSR—was disassembled by Glenn for inspection and found to be in usable condition. It was then kept on hand as a prepared racing unit. While build records are not included, the engine shows hallmark competition features such as high-butterfly mechanical fuel injection, dual-plug cylinder heads, a 12-plug distributor, and period-correct racing hardware. It is presented on a custom display stand.
The offering provides collectors a rare opportunity to acquire an authentic-appearing RSR-specification engine tied to one of Porsche’s most respected mechanics.
