The Lucid Air Sapphire redefines American performance sedans with 1,200+ hp, blistering acceleration, and a 205-mph top speed.
For decades, American performance sedans have leaned on thundering V8 engines and straight-line bravado, from the Dodge Charger Hellcat to Cadillac’s CTS-V. More recently, Tesla’s Model S Plaid shifted the narrative with electric propulsion. Now, a newer rival has claimed the crown. The Lucid Air Sapphire, unveiled in late 2022, has emerged as the fastest American sedan ever built.
Lucid Motors, a California-based EV startup producing cars for only five years, stunned the automotive world with the Sapphire’s staggering performance. The all-electric luxury sedan boasts more than 1,200 horsepower, delivered through a tri-motor system that places one motor up front and two in the rear. The result is supercar-level acceleration wrapped in the body of a sleek four-door.
Performance figures underscore its achievement. Lucid claims the Air Sapphire can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 1.89 seconds, cover the quarter-mile in under nine seconds, and achieve a top speed of 205 mph. Those numbers put it in rare company, rivaling million-dollar hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron and Rimac Nevera, while offering seating for five and a refined cabin.
Beyond raw power, the Air Sapphire is engineered for balance and control, with advanced torque vectoring, adaptive suspension, and massive carbon-ceramic brakes. Yet despite its aggressive performance, it retains a usable electric range of up to 427 miles, though real-world figures will drop when pushing its capabilities.
Owners have already showcased its drag strip prowess, often leaving traditional sports cars and muscle machines in its wake. In just a short span, Lucid has managed to disrupt a segment once ruled by big-displacement engines, proving that the fastest sedan in America doesn’t need gasoline.
The Air Sapphire is not only a record-setter—it is a glimpse at the future of high-performance luxury sedans.
