Lost Lamborghini Countach Found After 30 Years Hidden in Japan

A rare Lamborghini Countach that disappeared from the automotive world for more than three decades has resurfaced in Japan, preserved in almost showroom condition. The Blue Tahiti LP400 S, one of just 27 early examples built, was rediscovered after sitting untouched on the second floor of a dealership since the 1990s.

The story began when John Temerian, founder of Curated—a Miami-based dealership specializing in vintage exotics—received a call from a friend visiting Japan. The friend mentioned spotting a Countach that appeared to be frozen in time. Temerian, long obsessed with Lamborghini history, immediately recognized its significance. Despite repeated offers, the owner initially refused to sell. Eventually, with help from Countach specialist Chip Davis, Temerian persuaded the owner to part with the car.

What arrived in the U.S. stunned even a veteran collector like Temerian. “It looked like it was a year, maybe two years old,” he said. The Blue Tahiti paint gleamed as if freshly applied, and the odometer showed just 6,000 miles. Apart from routine mechanical servicing planned in Italy, Temerian has no intention of restoring it, calling it “a time capsule” of Lamborghini’s golden era.

Produced between 1974 and 1990, the Countach defined Lamborghini’s identity with its sharp, wedge-shaped body and scissor doors. The LP400 S model, introduced in 1978, evolved from the original “Periscopio” design, gaining wider flares and the now-iconic Bravo wheels. Early examples like this one are considered the most desirable among collectors for their purity and rarity.

For Temerian, who has handled hundreds of Countachs, this rediscovery is more than another acquisition—it’s a tangible link to the moment when Lamborghini redefined the supercar. “Every time I’m around one, I still feel like I’m eight years old,” he said.
