Lamborghini has brought renewed attention to one of its most celebrated classics, unveiling a fully restored 1972 Miura SV after a meticulous three-year effort led by its heritage division, Polo Storico. The project highlights the brand’s continued investment in preserving its legacy while reintroducing one of the most revered supercars of its era.
Originally designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, the Miura featured a distinctive two-door coupe design with a transverse rear mid-engine layout and rear-wheel drive. Powered by a V12 engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission, the model has long been regarded as a groundbreaking achievement in automotive engineering. Today, it commands significant value in the collector market, with even entry-level examples exceeding $1.5 million and top-tier versions surpassing $6.6 million.
The restored Miura SV was revealed at the inaugural Anantara Concorso Roma event in Italy, where it drew considerable attention among enthusiasts and collectors. Lamborghini’s team conducted extensive research before beginning the restoration, ensuring that every detail reflected the car’s original factory specifications. From the grille on the front fender to the signature fins above the door handles and the sculpted rear design, the vehicle was returned to its original appearance with precision.
The Miura SV was not the only highlight at the event. It was displayed alongside other historic Lamborghini models, including a 1968 Miura P400 and two Countach variants in 25th Anniversary specification from 1989, reinforcing the brand’s rich heritage of performance-focused design.
This particular Miura SV also carries cultural significance, having appeared in the opening sequence of the film “The Italian Job.” Despite longstanding speculation, the car used in filming was not destroyed and later changed ownership.
The restoration arrives as Lamborghini marks the 60th anniversary of the Miura, offering a timely opportunity to celebrate the model’s enduring impact. The project underscores the importance of historical accuracy and craftsmanship in maintaining the legacy of one of the most influential supercars ever produced.
