Ford’s latest EV hill-climb beast, the Super Mustang Mach-E, debuts with massive aero and a return to Pikes Peak on June 22.
Ford is heading back to the clouds with a new electric monster: the Super Mustang Mach-E, an extreme EV demonstrator built to dominate the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Set to be driven by veteran racer Romain Dumas, the radically reworked SUV will attempt to conquer the 12.42-mile ascent on June 22, and it’s bringing unprecedented aerodynamic firepower to the mountain.
The silhouette may suggest a Mustang Mach-E, but this prototype is anything but a standard crossover. With 6,125 pounds of downforce—more than any previous Ford EV demonstrator—the Super Mustang Mach-E looks ready to take flight, or more accurately, cling to the tarmac at elevation with ferocious grip.
Though technical specs remain under wraps, the visuals say everything. A colossal front splitter juts out like a snowplow, matched by an equally massive rear wing that dominates the rear view. Wide, bulging fenders envelop sticky Pirelli racing slicks, and the entire stance is slammed low for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. Ford says this is their most extreme EV demonstrator to date—and that’s saying something.
In 2023, Ford and Dumas set the Open Class record with the SuperVan 4.2, and returned in 2024 to take the overall win in the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, a 2,200-horsepower EV brute. With that track record and STARD (Austria-based STARD Advanced Research and Development) likely collaborating again, expectations are high for what this Mustang-derived electric beast can do.
Ford’s approach to electric racing has shifted from subtle to sensational, and this latest effort reflects that. As the countdown to Pikes Peak continues, all eyes are on what might be Ford’s wildest EV yet.
Could this be the future of performance? Or just a taste of what's to come? Either way, it’s clear Ford’s not holding anything back.
