Dodge Clears Durango SRT Hellcat for Nationwide Sale After Emissions Approval

Dodge has confirmed that the Durango SRT Hellcat is now certified for sale in all 50 states, removing a major barrier that previously limited availability in emissions-strict markets. The change applies to the 2026 Durango lineup and includes both the standard Hellcat and the more customizable Hellcat Jailbreak, with orders now open nationwide.

The move represents a sharp reversal from earlier in the year, when buyers in CARB states were unable to purchase the supercharged three-row SUV due to regulatory constraints. With certification now in place, Dodge says the entire Durango range can be sold in previously restricted markets such as California and New York, effectively reopening demand that had been pushed toward the used market.

Mechanically, the Durango SRT Hellcat remains unchanged. It continues to use a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 producing 710 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Dodge maintains performance claims that include mid-three-second acceleration to 60 mph, a top speed near 180 mph, and towing capability rated up to 8,700 pounds, figures that remain unusual in the three-row SUV segment.

Customization plays a central role in the 2026 strategy. The Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak expands buyer choice through a wide selection of wheels, exterior paint colors, stripe packages, brake-caliper finishes, interior color combinations, seatbelt colors, and optional interior upgrades such as an Alcantara headliner and black exhaust tips. Dodge says the available combinations reach into the millions, reinforcing the Hellcat’s role as a personality-driven performance vehicle.

The Durango Hellcat now sits alongside a broader Dodge lineup that spans plug-in crossovers and newly reworked performance models, offering a contrasting approach in a market increasingly shaped by electrification. From a sales standpoint, the decision aligns with rising Durango demand and preserves one of Dodge’s most recognizable performance nameplates.

At the same time, the nationwide return of a 710-horsepower gasoline SUV underscores the tension between performance branding and emissions goals, particularly as the same parent company promotes electrified alternatives. For buyers, however, the outcome is simple: the Durango SRT Hellcat is no longer limited by geography and remains one of the most extreme family vehicles still on sale.
