Cleetus McFarland has brought back one of his most iconic builds, the “Rat Rod” Toyota Supra, and this time the JDM legend is more powerful than ever. The popular YouTuber and drag racing enthusiast recently unveiled the latest round of upgrades to his heavily modified MKIV Supra, now featuring a 1,500-horsepower setup and a sequential gearbox designed to handle the massive output.
First introduced to McFarland’s audience nearly two years ago, the Rat Rod Supra quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its unassuming, sun-faded exterior and extreme power under the hood. While it retained the stock bodywork and weathered paint, its mechanicals were anything but ordinary. Built by Induction Performance, the car originally produced around 1,300 horsepower before undergoing recent refinements that pushed it into new territory.
At the heart of the build is the Supra’s legendary 2JZ-GTE engine, bored and stroked from its original 3.0-liter displacement to 3.4 liters. A massive single turbocharger delivers the boost needed to reach more than 1,500 horsepower. The addition of a carbon-fiber sequential transmission, paired with a gear display and rolling anti-lag, transforms the driving experience from impressive to race-ready. Multiple power maps allow McFarland to tailor the car’s performance from controlled street runs to full-blown track launches.
Despite its raw power, the Supra still retains much of its original interior, creating a contrast between vintage simplicity and cutting-edge performance technology. The updated drivetrain enables rapid gear changes and precise rev-matching, showcasing how modern tuning can elevate an already legendary platform.
McFarland’s upgraded Supra, blending brute horsepower with modern engineering, continues his tradition of taking unlikely builds and pushing them well beyond factory limits—this time delivering a true 8-second street machine disguised as a faded daily driver.
