This 1991 Acura NSX Is A Product Of Its Time

This automatic Acura NSX was specified with luxury in mind. It even has a corded in-car phone!

The Acura NSX was a landmark car in many respects as not only did it topple Ferrari from its perch, but it also proved that a supercar needn’t be a chore to drive daily. This 1991 NSX heading to Greensboro Auto Auction is a well maintained example of the iconic supercar developed with the help of Ayrton Senna.

You might look at this automatic car and think ‘that’s not very Ayrton Senna, is it?’ But the F1 legend did actually make use of an auto model as a company car in the UK. Sure, the snappy five-speed manual is a joy to use on winding canyon roads, but if you really intend to you this car everyday, you’re going to encounter plenty of traffic jams.

Something else that will make daily driving this NSX a little more pleasant is that its original owner optioned just about every luxury available. In addition to the usual smattering of leather and aforementioned automatic gearbox, there’s also the wonderfully ‘90s luxury of a corded Kenwood in-car phone.

While the specification of this car is geared towards subtlety and comfort, it’s still equipped with Honda’s fantastic high-revving 3.0-liter V6 VTEC engine which sounds great. There is a performance penalty for the automatic car with 256 hp, as well as a slower 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds, but its agile chassis and rewarding drive remains.

Known as the Honda NSX in Europe and Asia, the NSX was a supercar instilled with Honda/Acura’s core values of build quality and dependability. Unlike many competitors of its era, these cars could spend more time out on the road as opposed to in the service shop.

This 62,000 mile example appears immaculate and is a fantastic example of the F16 fighter jet inspired supercar. Value of these cars are on the up, making this lot of interest to those wish to make an investment.

It hits the auction block on 2 March 2019.
