A unique piece of American muscle history is currently chasing bids on Hagerty Marketplace: a supercharged 1967 Chevy II Nova built on a purpose-engineered Promax chassis by a family craftsman roughly 15 years ago. With more than 12,000 views and bidding already past $65,000 with seven days left on the clock, it's drawing plenty of attention from the muscle car community.
The 1967 Chevrolet Nova holds a special place in American muscle car culture. Originally marketed as a practical compact, the Chevy II Nova was quickly embraced by performance enthusiasts who recognized the lightweight platform's potential. The short wheelbase and relatively low curb weight made it an ideal candidate for big-block stuffing, supercharging, and all manner of go-fast modifications — a tradition that has carried on for decades. This particular example takes the Nova's performance heritage to an entirely new level. Rather than simply modifying a stock body, the builder opted for a Promax fiberglass body mounted to a Promax chassis — a purpose-built racing-style platform designed specifically for high-performance street and strip applications. The Promax system replaces the factory unitized body with a tube-frame-style structure clothed in lightweight fiberglass bodywork, saving significant weight while providing a rigid foundation for serious power.
Under the hood — or rather, beneath that fiberglass skin — lives a supercharged V8 breathing through an MSD ignition system. The combination delivers the kind of power that made these small Chevys legendary on the dragstrip, and the builder left nothing to chance when it came to controlling it. A Hurst pistol-grip shifter handles gear selection, while the suspension has been sorted for both straight-line performance and street manners.
The braking system is equally serious: Baer 4-wheel disc brakes replace the factory drums, a critical upgrade for a car packing this much power. Rack-and-pinion steering sharpens response, and a trunk-mounted battery aids weight distribution. The car rolls on staggered aluminum wheels wrapped in Hoosier tires, and a side-exit dual exhaust announces its intentions before the light even turns green.
Inside, the Spartan aggression of the race-bred chassis gives way to a surprisingly refined interior finished in ostrich leather — a custom touch that speaks to the builder's attention to detail. A billet 2-spoke steering wheel keeps the cockpit firmly in purpose-built territory. The car was built by the seller's grandfather around 2008–2009 and has remained in the family since. It carries a clean Ohio title and is currently located in Toledo, Ohio.
When it comes to market value for 1967 Novas, the range is wide depending on specification and condition. According to Hagerty's valuation tools, a concours-level 1967 Chevy II Nova can command strong six-figure money, while driver-quality examples trade at significantly lower values. A custom-built Promax car like this one sits in its own category — comparable vehicles on the open market are rare, which makes Hagerty Marketplace the right venue to find a buyer who truly understands what's being offered.
