Will you bring this muscle car home?

When 1970 rolled around, the GTO had experienced the glory of the muscle car. Beginning in this new decade, Pontiac restyle the GTO with a new endure nose and exposed headlights, new body lines going down the side, and refreshed backend. What remained the same was, the GTO was still pure muscle car as it rolled into the 70s, and this example brings that growling automotive history to life.

The beginning of the story behind this GTO might start with the factory redesign, and the work that was done on it at GM, but it continues beyond just that. This particular example left the assembly line and was shipped off to the Pontiac Motor Division in Pontiac Michigan on October 15, 1969 for use as a Pontiac Division company car. Since this GTO was originally ordered by Pontiac, it was well-optioned from the factory and include factory air, hood mounted tach, rally gauges, and other desirable accessories and features.

It was not too soon later on July 27, 1971 that it was declared an “out of service” company car when it was sold to Win Gurney Pontiac Inc. in Syracuse New York. It was eventually sold to its first retail owner.

As it sits now, this extremely rare GTO has been highly restored to top show condition. Powering the 1970s muscle car is a massive 455 cubic-inch HO engine, backed by an automatic transmission. Over the decades, the car has only had around 45K miles put on it, so it’s a relatively low-mileage example, especially considering the era is was built in.

With the purchase of this Pontiac GTO comes Pontiac Historical Services documents, a copy of the previous title, and even the issue of the 1969 Motor Trend magazine this Goat was featured in. It will so be up for grabs through Raleigh Classic when their winter auction is held on December 6th and 7th, register here for a chance to take this old school muscle car home.
