1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS Second Generation

The second generation Chevrolet Camaro is typically regarded as the best looking, and it’s not hard to see why. With that aggressive mouth dwarfing the double light setup it looks lean and mean. Add in that poised front spoiler and you have one of the most attractive muscle cars of the era.

Second generation Camaros are largely accepted as being better cars than their predecessors, thanks to a much larger budget and greater time allowance for the project. The successes of the first generation car allowed for some mighty improvements, such as far improved road holding and sound insulation for passengers.

This particular Camaro, offered by Tom Mack Auctions, is known as the '70-½' despite its 1970 model year, as a result of the second generation model being introduced in February, with some first generation cars still leaving forecourts.

Although any Camaro of this era is pretty cool in its own right, this one has a secret to divulge, and quite a good one. The car featured on Musclecar TV Season 6 for a full on nut and bolt restoration which has left this factory correct Citrus Green example looking epic.

Unlike many examples of this era, this one sports the original spec motor, which is more than powerful enough, with 375-horsepower on tap from the 396 cubic-inch V8 in L-78 spec. A four speed manual takes care of channeling that raucous power and shoves it through a posi-traction rear end to keep corners in check too.

Of the 124,901 Camaros built in 1970, just 27,136 were built in Rally Sport (or RS) spec, like the one here, which was an appearance package offered at the time. Regardless of original options, this car stands out for its evident show quality finish, and will inevitably become someone’s pride and joy for the summer ahead. With no reserve this is one to watch, and more importantly bid on!
