Big Muscle M-Code 1969 Dodge Dart GTS 440 Up for Grabs

This low-mileage M Code 440 Dart GTS is fully restored and has some beefy bored out big block power

In 1968, Mr. Norm Kraus – a legacy of automotive milestones – developed the first 440 Dart GSS. As a label, this doesn't scream of importance, but when informed that this vehicle became the prototype for the factory M Code 440 Dart GTS things get more interesting.

Kraus' prototype, named after his performance-leaning Chicago dealership (Grand Spaulding Sport), became a homologation special offered by Dodge exclusively for 1969. With only 640 produced, and furthermore less than 50 accounted for, finding one of these special order Scat Pack track cars remains a rare pleasure. However, there’s one on eBay right now!

This particular M Code 440 Dart GTS is fitted with a fully rebuilt 1967 440ci V8 that has been bored to 452ci. The correct 906 heads are present with larger stainless valves and mild lumpy camshaft. All of this power is mated to fully rebuilt 1967 727 automatic Torqueflight transmission, with a New B&M 2800 rpm converter that feeds an 8-3/4 rearend with a 742 center & 3.23 gears.

The Dart GTS underwent a documented restoration 14 years ago and only 800 miles have been added to the original 54,000 since. The body of the car presents itself well, with only a few small chips on the paint, and is original other than the passenger side quarter panel.

As with any 50 year old car, there are a few things that need attention. The tires have seen better days, the radio doesn’t work and there is a small fuel line leak – something you'll want to sort straight away. Yet considering these issues and some superficial surface rust on suspension parts, this beauty would be a perfect addition to an existing collection.

Trumpeting a “buy now” price of $55,000 and a current high bid of $30,100, with a fully restored example selling for $81,000 in 2017, the asking price is hard to resist...
