A pivotal piece of Formula One history is preparing to cross the virtual auction block as Broad Arrow offers Michael Schumacher’s first Grand Prix–winning car to the public for the first time. The 1992 Benetton B192-05, driven by Schumacher to victory at the Belgian Grand Prix, will headline Broad Arrow’s Global Icons: Europe Online auction, which opens for bidding from Jan. 23 through Jan. 30, 2026.
The car represents a defining moment not only in Schumacher’s career but also in modern Formula One history. Chassis B192-05 carried the German driver to his maiden victory at Spa-Francorchamps in August 1992, exactly one year after his Formula One debut at the same circuit. The race was contested in demanding conditions, with heavy rain shaping a challenging event over 44 laps on one of the sport’s most technical tracks.
Designed by Rory Byrne, the Benetton B192 stands out as the last Formula One car to win a race using a traditional H-pattern manual gearbox. Its success marked a transition point for the sport, signaling the end of one era and the beginning of another defined by advancing technology and a new generation of drivers. For collectors, the car is closely tied to the early emergence of a driver who would go on to reshape Formula One record books.
Schumacher’s win at Spa launched a career that ultimately included seven world championships, 91 victories, and record-setting totals for pole positions, podium finishes, and fastest laps at the time of his retirement. The B192-05 remained with the Benetton team’s successor organization in Enstone, England, for years before being sold in 2015 to a specialist operator of historic Formula One machinery. Documentation confirms the car was fully restored to working condition, including a chassis overhaul and rebuilt engine and gearbox.
Acquired by its current owner in 2016, the Benetton is now expected to command more than €8.5 million when bidding concludes later this month. The sale anchors a broader Global Icons auction series that also includes additional online sales in the United Kingdom and memorabilia categories, along with a range of high-profile collector cars from multiple marques.
Together, the offering places Schumacher’s breakthrough victory car at the center of a global auction lineup aimed at serious collectors and motorsport historians alike.
